Vervegirl Toronto to launch in June

Toronto-based teen girl mag Vervegirl Magazine just got a little sister in Vervegirl Toronto, a new digest-sized pub to launch in June. The new city-specific mag will have a youth-specific retail spin and will boast new content, says Kaaren Whitney-Vernon, president of Youth Culture Group, the parent company of Vervegirl. Its premiere issue is slated to be 32 pages long with 12 pages planned for ads.

'There's nothing for youth at the local level and [with this] we can finally reach the teen market [in Toronto]. There are lots of weeklies aimed at the university crowd and we're the first to target the teen crowd,' says Whitney-Vernon. The pub, which will initially publish three times per year, plans to partner with grassroots events throughout the city and promises loads of opportunities for sponsorship. The English-only Vervegirl Toronto will launch in 330 schools across the GTA in June 2006 just in time for graduation. The company also has plans to launch more city-themed magazines across major markets in 2007.
