Notes From the Media Landscape: Transparent fashion models?
Target is sidestepping that pesky debate about how thin is too thin by using holograms instead of flesh-and-blood mannequins.
Push-back against recent no-skeletons-on-the-runway pressure? A way to get around astronomical modeling fees? No one’s saying what prompted it, but US retailer Target will showcase its fall and winter apparel without models.
Instead, holograms will be prancing on the runway at NYC’s Grand Central Terminal this week. How the two-dimensional projections will look in designer duds – and whether the experiment will spark wholesale layoffs at modeling agencies – is anyone’s guess.
