HNIC reaching out to Mandarin-speaking viewers

In a first for CBC, select games of the Stanley Cup playoffs will be available in Mandarin with play-by-play by Jason Wang, who did similar duties for the 2007 Vancouver Whitecaps' home broadcasts.

For the first time ever, select games of the Stanley Cup playoffs will be available in Mandarin, live and on demand.

Throughout Hockey Night in Canada‘s coverage of the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which begins April 9, one series per round will be available in Mandarin at CBCSports.ca, with Jason Wang doing the play-by-play. He previously performed similar duties for the 2007 Vancouver Whitecaps’ home broadcasts on webcast radio and Shaw Multicultural Channel.

‘This is a great opportunity for us to introduce new audiences to the high-intensity NHL playoffs, and CBCSports.ca provides us with an ideal platform to do just that,’ explains Joel Darling, director of production, CBC Sports.
