YTV young talent showcase set to debut

The new summer talent series on YTV is aimed at a young, computer-savvy audience.

The Next Star is a new talent series for kids premiering on YTV on Friday, July 18 at 6 pm. Hosted by Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation), the show encourages viewer participation on, where fans can vote for their favourite performers.

The show features 12 singers who will learn about the music industry and battle to become the next star. ‘This will keep Canadian kids and their families tuned in throughout the summer to witness the journey of these young, talented singers,’ says Corus Kids’ VP of content Jocelyn Hamilton.

To determine which star will receive a recording contract with Universal Music Canada, audiences vote via text message or directly on Viewers also decide who will be featured on YTV’s Big Fun Party Mix 10, star in a professional music video and receive personal guidance from music industry personnel. The six singers in the last 10 episodes will have songs included on The Next Star CD, which is set to be released after the show’s September finale.

YTV’s site will show bios and photos of the cast, streaming clips and an early look into upcoming episodes. Also, an online newsletter will report on show developments.

The show is produced by Tricon Films in association with Corus Entertainment’s YTV, which is seen in over 8 million homes.
