Reality spin on High School Musical set to launch
High School Musical 2 raked in more than a million viewers for Family Channel last summer. CTV wants some of that buzz for its reality show debut this month.
CTV will premiere High School Musical: Get in the Picture on July 20 in a bid to reel in reality fans and give a sneak peek at the star of the upcoming movie’s music video. That’s right, by the time the show wraps up with one teen singled out as a winner, viewers will know whose face they’ll see in the music video tacked onto the end credits of High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which opens this fall.
The show features teens competing for an appearance in the next High School Musical feature film. The winner also gets an exclusive talent hold agreement with ABC and a recording contract for two singles with Walt Disney Records, one of which will be a version of the song from the music video.
It will air for three weeks on Sundays and Mondays in the 8 pm time slot, hosted by actor/singer/songwriter Nick Lachey (pictured).
And it could be good – at least in numbers. Last summer’s High School Musical 2 attracted more than 17 million viewers in the US. In Canada, the broadcast put Family Channel on the BBM/Nielsen Top 30 with an average minute audience of 1.001 million viewers, making it one of the highest-rated specialty broadcasts in five years.
