New sports channel okayed for CBC

Yesterday, the CRTC announced that it has approved the Ceeb's application to add CBC Sports Plus, a new all-sports digital channel.

Already on a high thanks to high ratings and widespread praise for its extensive coverage of the Beijing Olympics, CBC got more good news yesterday, when the CRTC gave the network a go signal for adding a new all-sports channel called CBC Sports Plus.

‘This is great news for both CBC and the Canadian sports system,’ says Scott Moore, XD for CBC Sports. ‘For over 50 years, CBC has been Canada’s pre-eminent broadcaster of Canadian sport. We feel with the addition of another platform, we will continue to be a great contributor to Canada’s success in sports at all levels.’

Featuring a mix of professional and amateur sports coverage, CBC Sports Plus is expected to debut some time next year.
