CKNW Talk 980 expands into online music
The Corus station is streaming free holiday tunes as part of its first foray into the digital sphere.
Corus Entertainment’s Vancouver-based radio station, CKNW Talk 980, launched its first online audio holiday music venture this week. The Magic of Christmas will stream 12 different channels, spanning various genres including rock, gospel and R&B. Online listeners can stream free music, and the channel has artist- and song-personalization features too.
The sports/talk/news station targets the 25-54 demo and currently reaches 350,000 of them weekly – a number it hopes to grow with this move. Current sponsorship ops include four brought-to-you-by messages every hour, up to 15 seconds each. The holiday-themed channel is available until just after Christmas, and will be returning next season. Positive email feedback from listeners so far signals a good initial response, say station peeps.
The music channel is being promoted by talk show hosts and on-air commercials.
