Astral and Corus pre-fly new show on Air Canada

Nets turn to the skies for in-flight ad opps around new drama series.

Astral Media’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central partnered with Air Canada to unspool sneak peeks of the networks’ original Canadian series ZOS: Zone of Separation with pre-roll ads on its seatback entertainment service, reaching a potential 2.5 million passengers every month.

The first two episodes of the eight-part drama series about the struggle to enforce a UN-brokered ceasefire in a fictional Sarajevo-like town will debut on Air Canada’s enRoute Television On Demand platform on all flights in advance of the network premiere on Jan. 19. Through the partnership, The Movie Network and Movie Central will also air a 15-second promo spot and behind-the-scenes footage until Feb. 28. The exclusive premiere will also be highlighted in enRoute magazine and on

‘The joint initiative provides us with an excellent promotional vehicle to raise awareness for the series,’ says Maryse Gauthier, marketing manager, The Movie Network. ‘This opportunity also allows us to tap into a new audience and, in turn, a new potential subscriber base.’

Current advertisers tapping the inflight fairly-captive audience include American Express, CIBC, BMW, XM Canada, The Keg and HSBC.
