Scotiabank invites students to see their futures

The bank's new online contest invites youth to plan ahead, and to visit its Fund Your Future site.

Scotiabank, in partnership with, is targeting students through a new online promotion, the Origami Oracle contest. The campaign is running as part of Scotiabank’s ‘Fund Your Future’ initiative, which provides students and their parents with interactive tools for planning and budgeting for post-secondary education. The contest is an attempt to increase traffic to the Fund Your Future site.

The Origami Oracle provides a tongue-in-cheek look into the future in four categories: romance, travel, money and health. By signing up and asking the oracle for their fortune, students can win prizes. They can also gain additional chances to win by forwarding the link on to other people. The grand prize includes a $1,000 gift certificate from WestJet, a Wii console with Wii Fit and $1,000 cash. The site was designed by Empirical.

The contest is being promoted via web banners and embedded text links on and their French-language site, Emails to Studentawards’ 600,000 members also supported the contest. The two sites receive 105,000 unique monthly visitors, according to Webtrends. The site provides students with a free searchable database of scholarship opportunities.
