Spotted! Newspaper wars
This ad, created by Naked and seen at International News at King and Bathurst streets in Toronto, was submitted to us by a passerby with an interest in the local newspaper scene.
Here, the Globe and Mail takes a stab at the National Post, which, because of the economic downturn and debt owed by Canwest Global Communications, cut its Monday editions for nine weeks this summer.
Considering the layoffs and cutbacks throughout all publications and networks, this is either a low blow to debt-ridden Canwest or a clever way to take advantage of the situation and convert readers. In the social media sphere, comments about the campaign range from ‘Brutal!’ to ‘Negative campaigning always backfires.’
It remains to be seen if the Post joins in on the duel.
