Ice Pilots premiere soars
The Canwest original series on History Television rakes in 459,000 viewers on its first night on air.
The high-flying antics of Arctic pilots got Canada’s attention last week as the series premiere of History Television’s Ice Pilots NWT attracted the highest audience ever for a Canadian series on the network.
The Canwest original series won its time slot and garnered 459,000 viewers (2+) for its debut episode, which aired Nov. 18 at 10 PM ET/PT. Over 170,000 of those viewers were in the 25-to-54 demo; 164,000 were in the 18-to-49 demo; and 133,000 of total viewers were female.
The show aired right after another History Television hit, Ice Road Truckers, which pulled in over a million viewers over two nights in the first week of November.
Ice Pilots follows the professional lives of the pilots of Buffalo Airways, a company that flies supplies in and out of mining communities in the far north using WWII-era prop planes.
