Idol trumped for top spot by Games

Tuesday's American Idol on CTV held the top spot in the pre-Olympic schedule, but the Opening Ceremonies steal top spot of the week with a massive 13 million viewers on Friday Feb. 12.

Here are the top-ranked shows in Canada (for all persons 2+; all times ET), according to BBM Canada, for Feb. 8 to Feb. 14, 2010.

Monday: Global’s House at 8 p.m. stays on top with 2.352 million viewers. (House had almost an identical fan base the previous week with 2.353 million viewers.)

Tuesday: American Idol performance show on CTV at 8 p.m. holds on to the top spot, attracting 3.562 million viewers. (Idol was most-watched the previous week with 2.891 million viewers.)

Wednesday: American Idol results show on CTV at 8 p.m., featuring newest judge the affable talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres, was most popular with 3.198 million viewers. (American Idol had 2.770 million people tune in the previous week.)

Thursday: The Mentalist on CTV at 10 p.m. beat out Grey’s Anatomy as the most-watched program of the night with 2.147 million viewers. (Grey’s Anatomy had 2.314 million viewers the previous week.)

Friday: The Olympic Opening Ceremony at 9 p.m. on the National Olympic Network (11 channels) – which honoured Canadian greats Rick Hansen, Wayne Gretzky and Steve Nash among others – was watched by 13.283 million people in Canada. The pre-opening ceremony, starting at 7 p.m., was in second place for the week with 5.564 million viewers. (CTV Evening News was on top the previous week with 1.721 million viewers.)

Saturday: Olympic Prime Time on CTV at 6 p.m. was most watched for the night with 2.968 million viewers. (Hockey Night in Canada Game #1 on CBC had 2.080 million tune in the previous week.)

Sunday: Olympic Prime Time was also the winner on Sunday night with 2.968 million viewers. (NFL Super Bowl on CTV had 6.017 million viewers the previous week.)
