Rival networks team up on multi-platform Genies
Multiple networks are joining forces to broadcast the 30th Annual Genie Awards.
The Canwest-owned Independent Film Channel will broadcast the ceremony live on Monday, April 12 at 9 p.m., while the online component will be simultaneously webcast on CBC.ca.
For those who miss the show, Astral Media’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central will re-air the event at a date to be determined.
‘Presenting the Genie Awards in partnership with multiple networks, on television and online, will enable us to celebrate with a remarkably broad and diverse audience of movie fans here in Canada and around the world,’ Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television CEO Sara Morton said in a statement.
CBC TV and its digital specialty channel Bold will also host a one-hour special that pays tribute to 30 years of celebrating Canadian filmmaking this fall.
The 30th Annual Genie Awards will be held at the Guverment/Kool Haus Entertainment Complex in Toronto on Monday, April 12. Sponsors for the event include ACTRA PRS, Astral Media, Deluxe, HMV Canada, Hotdocs, M.A.C Cosmetics, Kodak Entertainment Imaging, Movieola – The Short Film Channel and Telefilm Canada.
Last year’s show was also broadcast live on IFC and garnered 137,000 viewers.
