Come Dine with Me comes to Canada
Corus's W Network is ordering 40 episodes of the series that pits amateur hosts against each other.
Come Dine With Me is a reality show where contestants battle one another by serving plate after plate of lovely meals, and this fall, Canadians will get to experience the fierce action first-hand as W Network has ordered up a local production of the UK show.
Set to debut this fall, the half-hour series features five amateur cooks who compete with their culinary and hosting skills by throwing a dinner party for the other four contestants. Developed by Corus Entertainment and Toronto-based prodco Proper Television, the 40-episode series is looking for a drink sponsor, but will leave the menu and ingredient choices to its stars, says Vibika Bianchi, director, original productions, W Network.
‘The nature of the show is amateur cooks that are basically [choosing] what they think is the best dinner party, meal and menu. We want that to be as authentic as possible, but we do see some opportunities for alcohol sponsorship,’ Bianchi tells MiC. Producers are also considering finding a sponsor for the $1,000 prize for the winner, she adds, as well as a presenting brand partner.
Come Dine With Me Canada, which is still looking to cast a witty narrator, does not have a confirmed schedule time, but Bianchi says the series will likely air Monday to Friday with the possibility of weekend marathons. Production will take place in the Greater Toronto Area this summer.
