Astral to launch Playhouse Disney ‘en francais’
French-speaking Canadians will soon have a TV playhouse of their own with a new francophone Playhouse Disney channel. Limited online ad opps are available.
Handy Manny, everyone’s favourite Hispanic handyman, will soon be available to Quebecers and French-speaking Canadians on Astral’s new francophone Playhouse Disney channel.
Launching July 5 to Bell TV subscribers, the new channel complement’s the English-language version, which is currently available in English to cable subscribers. In a release, Astral said the channel will feature well-established international properties like Manny, as well as ‘celebrated Canadian series.’ Disney Programs include La maison de Mickey (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) and Agent Spécial Oso (Special Agent Oso) and Canadian programming includes Les Doodlebops (The Doodlebops) and Stella and Sam.
The new channel will also be accompanied by an interactive website that will be similar in look and feel to the English version, Playhousedisney.ca. Limited advertising space will be available and like the content, will be similar in nature to Playhousedisney.ca (banner ad units, games) but ads must fall in accordance with Quebec’s youth-advertising regulations, a spokesperson for Astral said. Ad sales will be handled by Astral’s iMedia division.
