Shaw Direct picks up Bite and AUX from GlassBOX

The new carriage deal will expand the reach of the channels to two million more households.

In its latest carriage deal, Shaw Direct is to carry the Bite comedy and AUX music service from GlassBOX Television.

The pick-up brings Bite and AUX to another two million households countrywide when added to another recent deal for their carriage on Shaw Cable.

Raja Khanna, co-CEO of GlassBOX Television, said ensuring Bite and AUX work across multiple platforms, on top of their linear channels, was key to securing the carriage deals with Shaw.

‘It takes creativity and new thinking to come to carriage agreements that make business sense for both partners,’ he explained.

GlassBOX has joined a growing list of indie broadcasters, including High Fidelity HDTV and Channel Zero, facing an uphill struggle to secure carriage deals from major carriers after Shaw took over Canwest Global Communications’ TV assets and rebranded them as Shaw Media, and as BCE gets set to acquire CTV and its stable of conventional and specialty channels.

Bite features original content from comedy clubs and short comedic films, while AUX showcases new music and the artists behind it.
