ABC and Global renew Rookie Blue
A third season of the summer hit Canadian cop drama is now in development.
It’s official: ABC in the US and Global Television in Canada have picked up the Canadian cop drama Rookie Blue for a third season.
The success of Rookie Blue’s sophomore season on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. has prompted both broadcasters to renew for another cycle, which is now in development.
Production on the third season is slated to start this summer in Toronto.
“Rookie Blue is a proven hit on both sides of the border, and we’re proud to announce its renewal alongside ABC,” Barbara Williams, SVP of content at Shaw Media, said this week.
Rookie Blue’s sophomore season bowed on June 23 on Global and drew 1.5 million viewers for the opening episode, according to BBM Canada data.
The series follows five young cops played by Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Travis Milne, Enuka Okuma and Charlotte Sullivan.
Details on sponsorship and product integration opportunties for the new season are still in development, according to a Shaw Media spokesperson.
