BBM Overview: PPM summer ratings

Bray & Partners president David Bray breaks down which radio stations are on top in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary.

As summertime scenes start to fade in our memories, we get a chance to reflect on radio over the summer with the latest PPM radio ratings. Today’s radio release from BBM completes the 13-week period covering May 30 to Aug. 28. This marks the eighth 13-week period in the new era of measurement for Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers.

Toronto: Bragging rights at the top of the ratings heap go to CHFI-FM with a 12.6% share of hours tuned for A12+ (down from 13.6% last time out). CHFI-FM remains #1 with the ladies 25-54, posting a 16.5% share (down from 17.1%), followed by CHUM-FM with a 15.7% share (down from 16.0%). Q107 is, once again, on top for M25-54, posting a 12.4% share (down from 13.9% in the last 13-week book).  The Edge held their #1 slot with M18-34 turning in a 17.9% share (down from 21.2%). For F18-34, CHFI-FM tops the list posting a 15.4% (down from 15.9%) share followed by 102.1 The Edge with a 14.2% (up from 11.1%) share of hours tuned.

Vancouver: CKNW holds the #1 spot for A12+ with a 11.5% share of hours tuned (down from 11.6% last time out). Taking the top spot for females aged 25-to-54 was perennial office station favourite 103.5 QM-FM, posting a 14.3% share (up from 12.5%). The Beat vaults into the lead with male 25-to-54 listeners, delivering an 11.1% share (up from 9.9%).  The Beat tops the list for M18-34 with 19.2% share of hours tuned (up from 18.0%) followed by the FOX with 11.0% (down from 13.4%). When it comes to females 18-34, the Beat also takes top spot with a 17.0% share (up from 14.6%).

Edmonton: 630 CHED rules the roost for A12+ posting a 10.2% share of hours tuned (down from 10.3% last time out). 102.3 NOW! Radio takes top spot for F25-54, delivering an 11.7% share (up from 11.2%). NOW! also tops the list for M25-54 with a 12.4% share (up from 10.1%) followed closely by The Bear at 10.3% (down from 10.4%) and Sonic 102.9 at 10.3% (up from 10.0%). For M18-34, Sonic 102.9 is out in front with a 16.9% (down from 17.6%) share.

Calgary: QR77 leads the way for A12+ with an 8.9% share (down from 10.2%) neck and neck with Country 105 which also posted with an 8.9% share (up from 6.5%). Country 105 is popular with the ladies, taking #1 spot for F25-54, delivering a 12.5% share (up from 9.4%). For M25-54, X92.9 leads the way with a 10.6% share (up from an 8.7%) along with JACK-FM at 10.6% (down from 12.8%). X92.9 takes top spot for M18-34, posting an 18.9% share (up from 18.1%).
