Rookie Blue has started shooting its third season, with William Shatner guest starring and Peter Mooney (Camelot) joining the series as its newest recruit.

Shatner will appear in the opening episode as Henry McLeod, a belligerent drunk driver with a haunting secret.

And Mooney will play an ex-soldier and new recruit, and perform alongside returning cast members Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Travis Milne, Enuka Okuma and Charlotte Sullivan.

Tassie Cameron also returns as executive producer and showrunner for the third season, which will air on ABC and Global Television in early 2012.

Start on production in Toronto also coincides with fellow series exec producer Ilana Frank making her directorial debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. Frank’s four-minute short, Something Red, which stars Missy Peregrym, Travis Milne and Gregory Smith, was financed by Bravo!FACT and received a berth in TIFF.
