The Amazing Race Canada wins out of the gates: BBM

The competition series, which premiered Monday night on CTV, became the most watched Canadian program since the Corner Gas finale in 2009.

The Amazing Race Canada raced out of the starting blocks Monday evening, becoming the most watched Canadian program since the finale of Corner Gas in 2009.

According to BBM data, the Canadian version of the American format drew in a total of three million viewers, and peaked at 3.5 million viewers, which also makes it the most watched series premiere for a Canadian or American series since CSI: NY premiered to an audience of 3.2 million in 2004.

The premiere delivered 1.4 million and 1.5 million viewers in the key adult aged 18 to 49 and adult aged 25 to 54 demos, respectively, earning it an audience share of more than 33% nationally, and more than 25% in all major markets.

The Amazing Race Canada hashtag, #RaceCDA also took off on Twitter and trended during the broadcast and into Tuesday, with more than 5,600 mentions in the 24 hours surrounding the premiere.
