The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has picked up six Webby Awards, including three for Way to Go, an “interactive experience for human beings between 5 and 105 years old.”

Winners of the 20th annual Webby Awards were announced Tuesday.

Way To Go took home the Webby and People’s Voice awards in the Web/NetArt category, as well as the Webby for Online Film & Video/VR: Gaming, Interactive or Real-Time.

Created and directed by Vincent Morisset, Way To Go was executive produced by the NFB’s Hugues Sweeney and produced by France TV’s Boris Razon, Voyelle Acker and Cécile Deyon.

The Unknown Photographer won the People’s Voice award for Online Film & Video/ VR: Gaming, Interactive, or Real Time. The VR experience is from executive producers Marc Beaudet of Turbulent, Benoit Beauséjour and Sweeney, and is produced by Turbulent’s Claire Buffet and the NFB’s Louis-Richard Tremblay.

The NFB’s Cardboard Crash VR for Google Cardboard took home the Webby for Online Film & Video/ VR: Gaming, Interactive, or Real-time (Branded).

Highrise: Universe Within from the NFB and Secret Location won the Online Film & Video/ Best Use of Interactive Video award. Directed and written by Katerina Cizek, the project was executive produced by the NFB’s Anita Lee and Silva Basmajian, and produced by its David Oppenheim and Gerry Flahive. Secret Location’s Pietro Gagliano served as creative director and VP.

Toronto’s Secret Location also won the Online Film & Video/ VR: Cinematic or Pre-Rendered award for Orchestra VR, executive produced by its James Milward and produced with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.

The Webby Awards, which celebrate “excellence on the internet”, are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Winners will be celebrated at a ceremony in New York on May 17.

Leo Burnett also picked up a Webby Award, winning in the Advertising & Media/Online Commercials category for its “Always Unstoppable” ad.
