Metro thinks outside the cart
Metro wants to send consumers the message that their neighbourhood grocery store has changed more than its name. They're driving that message home by turning grocery carts into prams and bringing them to 25 stores across the GTA. The pram concept complements Metro's "a store is born" advertising campaign, featuring Metro employees cradling food like a baby. CIM (Consumer Impact Marketing) worked with Metro to expand the creative strategy beyond traditional media.
"We're trying to support that store in the community and let people know in a cool, fun, different way that the store is changing and a new store is being born," Anne Bowie of CIM tells MiC. It's all part of a major rebranding in which Dominion, A&P, The Barn, Loeb and Ultra Food & Drug will all be converted into Metro stores between now and 2010.
Thirty-four street teams will bring the prams to the stores and hand out coupons and postcards to coincide with store launches over the next few weeks.
24 hours and Score Media partner on sports
Beginning today, Score Media and Sun Media's free daily newspaper 24 hours are teaming up to bring sports insights from high-profile commentators to young, urban, culturally diverse commuters in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
"The Score has a well-deserved reputation for delivering edgy and unique perspectives on major sporting events, which we know is a main interest of our readers," says Chris Brockbank, VP of marketing at Sun Media and publisher of 24 hours. "The hard-hitting content from The Score is also a great fit with the 'high-speed news' format that is driving the redesign of the 24 hours paper."
24 hours commentators include popular Score personality Nikki Reyes, Sirius Hardcore Sports Radio broadcast host and Score Media VP of programming Richard Garner, Adnan Virk, co-host of the new Score in the Morning and network Raptor anchor, and Steve Kouleas, host of Hardcore Hockey Talk.
Media buys were handled in-house at The Score.
Sun Media's newspapers have an estimated 6.5 million readers every week.
