Global Television raked in 3.4 million viewers for Super Bowl Sunday, or 1.7 million viewers in the key demo adults 18-49. The numbers were down from 3.9 million in 2006. The net’s much-anticipated Sunday night premiere of Deal or No Deal Canada, using Super Bowl XLI as a lead-in, kept 2.7 million viewers on average, with peaks of 3.1 million. The Howie Mandel machine stomped CTV’s special super-Sunday episode of Criminal Minds by 67% nationally and 107% in the adults 18-49 demo.
The Super Bowl was the most-watched broadcast of the week in Toronto’s adult 18-49 demo. But nationally, the Super Bowl couldn’t beat the 3.5 million average enjoyed by CTV’s CSI for the week ending Feb. 4. Global’s Deal or No Deal Canada may have peaked close to CTV’s American Idol numbers, but it fell short by almost a quarter million viewers on the averages.
