CBC launches aboriginal website

It's National Aboriginal Day in Canada, and the Ceeb is marking the occasion with a new online content collection.

The CBC has officially launched CBC Aboriginal (cbc.ca/aboriginal) to coincide with National Aboriginal Day (today, June 21). The site ties together the Ceeb’s regional and national TV, radio and news coverage of aboriginal issues. Content includes video and audio, an electronic newsletter, arts and culture insights, personality profiles and an online polling feature.

CBC Television exec director of network programming Kirstine Layfield said the initiative aims to meet demands from Canadians for diversity in programming and provide a connection with the ‘aboriginal reality in Canada.’ She said the site is also intended to serve as a resource tool for communities, schools, business and industry.

The site does not currently feature advertising, but opportunities are available through CBC and AOL Canada, which represents the CBC’s online advertising.
