Beckham kicks for Motorola

In the company's Free Kicks contest, headset buyers can win a trip to L.A. and a master class with the soccer superstar himself.

Motorola is tapping the burgeoning popularity of soccer to boost sales of its Bluetooth headsets – with the help of superstar David Beckham, who is expected to make his North American debut in Toronto in August.

Buyers of the headsets – available at selected retailers or online at www.hellomoto.com – can enter the company’s Free Kicks contest, which offers a prize package including a trip to L.A. for a master class with Beckham, tickets to a professional soccer game, Beckham training kits, soccer balls and other goodies.

To promote the contest, which closes July 15, ten autographed Beckham jerseys will be given away online and through radio stations and soccer associations, and street teams of soccer players will hit ‘high-traffic locations’ in Toronto like Dundas Square and Queen West. As well, there will be special packaging for the headsets and displays in participating stores, which include Telephone Booth, Wireless Wave, Rogers Wireless and Generation Wireless outlets across Canada, plus online promotion featuring a taped message from Beckham at sites for various radio stations, Sportsnet and the Ontario Soccer Association. Organizing of the giveaways and street soccer teams is being done by Hill and Knowlton.
