MTV, film fest, Motorola power UGC promo

MTV is airing ads made with Motorola phones in a bid to get Canadians making mobile films in time for TIFF.

MTV, Motorola and the Toronto International Film Festival are putting sponsorship power behind a user-generated content mobile film competition called ‘For the Reel.’

The contest invites Canadians to submit essays, scripts or images at On July 25, finalists will be sent Motorola phones to shoot two-minute films. The public will then vote to determine the winner.

Prizing includes Motorola mobile devices and a trip to this year’s TIFF. MTV will air the winning entry on its flagship series, MTV Live, during the week of the festival (Sept. 7-11). The winner will be announced on August 27.

MTV is promoting the contest via in-house 15- and 30-second spots, each filmed using mobile Motorola phones. The spots are available for viewing at
