CTV to go live with MTV Video Music Awards

The nets have marked Sunday, September 9 for the main event, and sponsorship opps are up for the taking.

CTV will broadcast the MTV Video Music Awards live from Las Vegas on Sunday, September 9 at 9 pm ET/PT. It’s the second year the net will broadcast the two-hour awards show. MTV Canada will present a whole VMA weekend around the awards, building up to the star-studded main event. Encore remixes of the broadcast, along with bonus footage and exclusives, will stream at MTV.ca.

MTV Canada reports that sponsorship opportunities are available for the awards, both on-air with CTV and online with MTV.ca. No sponsors for the Canadian broadcast have been announced. In the US, the 2007 MTV VMA sponsors are Chevy, Herbal Essences, Neutrogena, Pepsi Smash, Sprint and Taco Bell.

Last year, the VMAs recorded an AMA of 603,000 2+ viewers on CTV. The 2006 MTV VMAs total reach was over 4.1 million Canadians.

This year’s MTV VMA host has not yet been announced. Performers include Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna, Lily Allen and Chris Brown.
