Super Channel signs content deal with IMG

Canada's only national pay-TV network will air the media giant's panoply of sports, comedies, dramas and factual entertainment, plus Gamer.tv.

Two weeks after launching on Bell ExpessVu as Canada’s only national pay-TV network, Super Channel (owned by Edmonton’s Allarco Entertainment) has inked a major deal with giant UK- and NYC-based IMG Media.

‘Our agreement with IMG highlights Super Channel’s commitment to changing the way viewers think of pay TV in Canada,’ says Super Channel programming VP Sandy Perkins. ‘Offering even more programming that Canadians can’t get anywhere else makes Super Channel a whole new television experience.’

Touted as the world’s largest independent distributor of sports programming and live events, and a leader in multi-genre content, IMG will be providing Super Channel with sports, comedies, dramas and factual entertainment. Included will be Benidorm, a critically acclaimed comedy series that reached audience figures of nearly six million in Britain; Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul (pictured), a comedy sketch series featuring two of the UK’s biggest names in comedy; Roman’s Empire, a hilarious series about a self-made multi-millionaire; Bollywood Bosses, which chronicles the Bollywood industry; and King of Miami, which follows comedian Dave Hill’s bid to reign over the Florida city.

Also arriving on Super Channel via IMG is Gamer.tv. The international weekly magazine show for video game enthusiasts mixes reviews, news, previews and features for video games. ‘Connecting the gaming world with today’s television entertainment makes the medium much more than a passive experience,’ says Perkins.
