On the weekend of Jan. 9, Toronto-based EcoMedia Direct expanded its Street Art sponsorship program by wrapping the work of Canadian artists around 21 new SilverBox recycling bins in downtown Toronto.
Some of the new bins, which can be identified by their avocado-green tops, are located in Nathan Phillips Square, at the intersection of Bay and Queen Streets and on the streets surrounding the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and the Toronto Hilton Hotel. They feature artists represented by the Petroff Gallery in Toronto.
Due to what EcoMedia Direct CEO Erich Genseberger called ‘overwhelmingly positive response,’ the previous initiative, the Magenta Foundation’s ‘Flash Forward’ exhibit – which features pink bins wrapped with work by Canadian photographers – will also be extended for an undisclosed period of time.
Thus far, the project has been carried out in-house, with the partner galleries and a corporate sponsor, Vaughan, Ont.-based automotive parts manufacturer Martinrea International. ‘While the program is underway, we are speaking with new sponsors in order to enhance and expand our award-winning program, and to continue to beautify the streetscape of Toronto,’ says Genseberger.
