Post appoints digital media VP

The National Post has promoted Jonathan Harris to spearhead digital operations.

Jonathan Harris joined the National Post in 2000. Four years later, he was promoted to executive editor. In 2006, he took on the mandate of rebuilding the Post‘s online platform as director of online.

Today, Harris has been appointed VP of digital media. His new role means he will be responsible for building on the operational strength of nationalpost.com and financialpost.com.

Under his leadership, the websites have already seen online readership in Toronto soar by almost 50% in 2007 (the year of the re-boot), the greatest percentage increase of all its newspaper competitors in that market, and 37% in key markets, according to NADbank.

‘The National Post is not just a newspaper, it’s a constantly evolving source for breaking news and commentary that’s powered by Canada’s best journalists,’ says Harris. ‘The Post is committed to offering its audience the best this paper has to offer on all platforms.’

Publisher Gordon Fisher says the paper has ‘broken new ground with its multimedia offerings, and we will continue with that innovation to provide a unique experience for our readers and advertisers.’
