Canadians collect clutch of Clios

For starters, Ogilvy & Mather's goofy Diamond Shreddies spoof grabbed the Grand Clio in the Integrated category.

Rotating a regularly shaped Shreddie 45 degrees and building a campaign on the product’s purportedly revolutionary redesign has earned Ogilvy & Mather Toronto what might well be the first in a string of international awards this year – the Integrated Grand Clio.

The win was one of several handed to Canadians at last weekend’s Clio Awards in Miami. In the Poster Product/Service Campaign category, Rethink won a Silver for Playland. The Vancouver agency also took home a Bronze for its ‘Dog’ execution in the Poster Entertainment category.

In the Print competition, BBDO Toronto won two Bronze Clios – one in the Direct Mail category for its ‘Ransacked’ execution for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and another for FedEx in the Business to Business category.

In the Billboard Entertainment category, TBWA/Vancouver won a Bronze for its ‘Rainbow Billboard’ work for the BC Lottery Corporation.

As well, GJP won two Bronze Clios in the Design competition, one in the Corporate Identity category for RUSH Tape and the other in the Annual Reports category for its work on behalf of Distress Centres of Toronto.

The second night of the Clio Awards was dedicated to handing out awards in the Television/Cinema/Digital, Interactive, Technique and Radio competitions. In the Television competition, Taxi Toronto won three awards – a Silver in the Pharmaceuticals (single) category for the ‘BBQ’ spot for Viagra, plus a Bronze in the same category for ‘Coffee’ and a Bronze in the Product/Service Campaign category for ‘Dog.’

Also for television, a Silver in the Public Service (single) category went to Rethink for its ‘Paper’ spot for the YWCA. And Cossette Toronto won a bronze in the media category for its work on behalf of the Fight Network.

In the Radio competition, DDB Toronto won a Gold in the Personal Items category for its ‘Gardening Tips’ work for Philips Canada’s Bodygroom men’s electric shaver, plus a Bronze for ‘Decorating Tips’ and ‘Housekeeping Tips’ – with all three executions recognized in the Product/Service Campaign category with Bronzes.

Also at this year’s Clio Awards, BBDO New York won Agency of the Year, and BBDO Worldwide was named Network of the Year.
