Nick, YTV, Treehouse debut new March series

March madness takes hold at Corus Entertainment as the broadcaster debuts three new series.

With all that March break free time shimmering in front of them, Canadian kids can look forward to three new series on Corus Entertainment kid channels Nickelodeon, Treehouse and YTV this month.

Now that Nick is here in Canada, Corus Entertainment is airing the Nickelodeon’s 2010 Kids’s Choice Awards live on the channel with a special interactive element for Canadian viewers. For the first time, Canadian kids are invited to vote on the Kids’ Choice categories, choosing which celebrities, athletes, musicians and shows they think deserve the honours in 19 categories. The awards will air on Nickelodeon in Canada on March 27 at 8 p.m. ET. It will also repeat on April 2 at 7 p.m. ET. Voting starts today.

Also debuting on Nickelodeon is Team Umizoomi, a 20-episode half-hour educational series that seeks to make math fun for kids. The show combines songs and adventure with educational activities explained by heroes Milli, Geo and Bot, who form Team Umizoomi. The show debuts tomorrow, March 2, in its regular timeslot at 1:30 p.m.

The new series 10 Things I Hate About You will debut on YTV this month, a Sweet Valley High-esque show based on the movie of the same name (itself based, in turn, on Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’). It follows two sisters as they navigate the social stratosphere at a new high school. The show is a half-hour long and will premiere on Friday, March 19 at 9 p.m., and will stay in that timeslot.

Over at Treehouse, the channel welcomes the premiere of Tobi!, a super-short series of five minute episodes starting March 7. The show, for the under-five set, follows Tobi and Laloo as they learn various life lessons, such as how to share and work together. The first episode will debut at 9:55 a.m. ET on March 7 and the second will air an hour later at 10:55 a.m. ET.
