Postmedia Network launches daily deal site

The publisher opens up SwarmJam.com, offering a new space for both local and national advertisers to sell discounted goods and services.

Postmedia Network launched SwarmJam.com yesterday, opening up a new space for both local and national advertisers.

Visitors to the site are offered daily deals, generally 50% or more off a product or service, based on where they live.

The deals on the website will also be spread across Postmedia’s other properties, Alvin Brouwer, president, business ventures, Postmedia Network, tells MiC.

‘We’re the new kid on the block, but we think with our media assets behind this we can grow it quickly and grow it right across the country,’ he says. ‘When we run a deal, not only does it appear on the SwarmJam site, it also appears in our newspapers and also on our websites.’

To promote the new site, Postmedia is advertising in its own newspapers, educating consumers about the site and also the daily discounts. There are also online ads on Google, and an email campaign.

The publisher did the creative and buy in-house and worked with Vancouver-based CityXpress to build the site.

As the site grows, Brouwer plans to extend the geography and look at the frequency of the deals.
