History Television is continuing its success with the ‘scary job’ reality genre this winter with the premiere of IRT: Deadliest Roads, a spinoff of its hit show Ice Road Truckers.

Deadliest Roads helped History win the night as the leading specialty channel on Wednesday with 968,000 viewers (BBM Canada, 2+), and the show took the crown as the highest-rated single episode in the channel’s history.

The episode beat the previous winner, Pawn Stars, which earned 800,000 viewers last October.

IRT: Deadliest Roads features popular personalities from Ice Road Truckers in even more extreme driving conditions.

Shaw Media also saw the first of Global’s two new dramas debut on Wednesday night at 10 p.m., with Off The Map posting 1.4 million viewers (BBM Canada, 2+) and 563,000 viewers nationally in the 18-to-49 demo (AMA). The medical drama features a team of American doctors at a remote clinic in a developing country, and all the challenges that come along with it.
