BNN, Bell find app-iness

New BNN/CP24 co-production App Central explores the world of apps with Bell as a presenting sponsor.

Apps will migrate from the digital realm to the traditional world of television next week when the new show App Central begins airing on the Business News Network (BNN).

A co-production between CTV-owned news nets BNN and CP24, the 30-minute show will help viewers better understand the world of software applications for smartphones and tablet devices. It will be hosted by Amber MacArthur, Michael Hainsworth and tech reporter Kris Abel who will cover the latest apps and the people working in the rapidly-expanding sector.

The show premieres on BNN on Tuesday, March 29 at 8 p.m. ET and on CP24 on April 3 at 10:30 a.m. ET, as well as CTV Saturday’s at 5:30 p.m. ET beginning April 9. Full episodes will be available online at Appcentral.ca. It will air weekly, with repeats on CP24 on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. ET and Mondays at 7:30 p.m. ET. Each week the hosts will review the latest apps and gadgets, interview an app creator and app-happy celebrities.

New CTV owner Bell is the show’s presenting sponsor, but additional promotional opportunities exist, a spokesperson for the net confirmed. Bell announced last September a partnership with BNN for exclusive content on its mobile devices, a deal that caused a bit of a headache for the telco during the CRTC reviews of the CTV acquisition. Critics argued that Bell’s purchase of CTV could open the door for further such deals, a claim the telco steadfastly denied.

CTV will promote App Central with an online trailer, on-air promo spots, web banners on the respective networks’ websites and a social media campaign. In addition to official presences on Facebook and Twitter, the show’s three hosts will be tweeting up a storm to attract viewers.
