The telco added 50,000 IPTV subscribers during the last quarter.

Web TV is feeding the bottom line at Telus Corp.

The mobile phone provider, releasing its third quarter results Friday, said its Telus TV division added 50,000 subscribers during the latest quarter, up 32% over same period last year, on the strength of its internet-based Optik TV offering.

Telus TV now has 453,000 subscribers signed up, an increase of 70% from a year ago, and a major competitive threat to western Canadian rival Shaw Communications and its cable and satellite TV offerings.

Overall, Vancouver-based Telus reported third-quarter earnings of $326 million, up from a year-earlier profit of $251 million, on revenue up 6.5% to $2.62 billion.
