BBM Overview: New PPM ratings

Bray & Partners president David Bray breaks down which radio stations are on top in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary.

With summer behind us, we can now look back at the radio landscape with today’s release of the latest PPM radio ratings. Today’s release from BBM completes the 13-week period covering May 27 to Aug. 25. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers for the five PPM markets.

Toronto: Bragging rights at the top of the ratings heap go to CHFI-FM with a 14.2% share of hours tuned for A12+ (down from 14.6% last time out). CHUM-FM takes the #1 spot with the ladies 25 to 54, delivering a 21.5% share (down from 22%) followed by CHFI-FM delivering a 19.4% share (up from 18.6%). The Edge 102.1 holds the #1 spot for males 25 to 54, posting a 10.2% share (up from 8.5% in the last 13-week book). The Edge also leads the way for men 18 to 34 with a 20.6% share (up from 16.5%). For females 18 to 34, CHFI-FM tops the list posting a 21% (up from 20%) share followed by CHUM-FM with a 20.2% (down from 20.4%) share of hours tuned.

Vancouver: QM-FM grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with a 10.4% share of hours tuned (up from 9.6% last time out). Taking the top spot for females 25 to 54 was The Beat with their hot summer hits, posting a 13.8% share (up from 11.5% last time out). The Beat also holds the lead for male 25-to-54 listeners, delivering a 10.3% share (up from 9.2%).  The Beat is out in front for males 18 to 34 with an 18.2% share of hours tuned. When it comes to females 18 to 34, The Beat takes top spot with an 18.4% share.

Edmonton: 102.3 NOW! Radio rules the roost for A12+ posting a 10.6% share of hours tuned (down from 11.7%). NOW! Radio also takes top spot for females 25 to 54, delivering a strong 17.9% share (up from 17.1%). With another hat trick NOW! also tops the list for males 25 to 54 with a 13.9% share (down from 14.5%). For males 18 to 34, NOW! posted a 15.9% (down from 17.6%) followed by Sonic 102.9 with a 13.8% share (up from 12.4%) and the Bear at 12.9% (up from 16.2%).

Calgary: CBC Radio One leads the way for A12+ with an 11.1% share (up from 10.5%). Country 105 is popular with the ladies, taking the #1 spot for females 25 to 54, delivering a 13% share (down from 14.4%). For males 25 to 54, XL103FM leads the way with a 10.8% share (up from 8.1%) followed by CJ92 with a 9.5% share. CJ92 takes top spot for males 18 to 34 with a 12.8% share. Country 105 is #1 for females 18 to 34 posting a 23.3% share (up from 19.3%).

Montreal: CHMP 98.5FM is #1 for A12+ with a 15.5% share (down from 17.5%). CFGL-FM 105.7 Rythme FM is tops with the ladies, taking the #1 spot for F25-54 delivering a 20% share (up from 19%). For M25-54, CHMP 98.5FM leads the way with a 16.4% share (down from an 18.2%). Virgin Radio96 is #1 for males 18 to 34 with a 13% share. Virgin Radio96 is also #1 for females 18 to 34 with a 22.5% share (down from 25.2%).
