Canadian Family launches sponsored iPad edition

The launch kicks off with the magazine's March issue and is part of a larger initiative from publisher St. Joseph Media.

St. Joseph Media-published Canadian Family has a new interactive iPad edition beginning with its March issue.

The inaugural edition is the title’s annual Baby issue and the new digital extension is sponsored by baby formula manufacturer Mead Johnson. Carina Cassidy, publisher, Canadian Family, tells MiC that the interactive edition replaces the older digital replica edition on iOS devices and will soon also take the place of digital issues on other platforms as the title expands the reach of the new launch. It currently costs $3.99 in the Apple app store.

Interactive digital editions will feature ads from one sponsor and expanded content from the print edition of the magazine, with about a half-dozen features getting additional bells and whistles like slide shows, audio from interviews and roadtrip check-lists in the March issue.

Cassidy says the launch of the iPad edition is part of a larger strategy at St. Joseph Media to make interactive editions available. The publisher is also launching interactive editions for Toronto Life and Fashion.
