BBM overview: New PPM ratings

Bray & Partners president David Bray breaks down which radio stations are on top in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary.

As summer begins to fade, things are heating up with the latest PPM radio ratings released today. This release from BBM completes the 14-week (as opposed to the normal 13) period covering May 26 to Aug. 31, 2014. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers for the five PPM markets.

Toronto: Bragging rights at the top of the ratings heap go to CHFI-FM with a 12.9% share of hours tuned for A12+ (down from 13.2% last time out). CHFI-FM takes the #1 spot with the ladies 25 to 54 delivering a 20.9% share (up from 20.5%), followed by CHUM-FM delivering a 16.3% share (down from 17%). Q107 holds the #1 spot for males 25 to 54, posting an 11% share (up from 9.3% in the last 13-week book). Virgin leads the way for men 18 to 34 with a 12% share. For women 18 to 34, CHFI-FM tops the list posting a 23.6% share.

Vancouver: QMFM grabs the top spot for A12+ with a 10.7% share of hours tuned (up from 9.5% last time out). Taking the top spot for women 25 to 54 was QMFM, posting a 12.9% share (up from 10.7% last time out). Rock 101 showed some nice gains and now holds the lead for male 25 to 54 listeners, delivering an 11.7% share (up from 7.8%). The station is also out in front for men aged 18 to 34 with a 13% share of hours tuned followed closely by the FOX at 12%. When it comes to 18- to 34-year-old females, The Beat takes top spot with an 18.9% (down from 23.2%).

Edmonton: 102.3 NOW Radio rules the roost for A12+ posting a 12.7% share of hours tuned (up from 11%). The station also takes top spot for women 25 to 54, delivering a 16.9% share (up from 14.5%). It also tops the list for men 25 to 54 with an 18.2% share (up from 13.3%), as well as in the 18-to-34 age range where it posted a 26.6% share (up from 20.9%).

Calgary: Country 105 leads the way for A12+ with a 10.9% share (up from 10.3%). The station remains popular with the ladies, taking #1 spot for females 25 to 54 delivering a 14.1% share (down from 15%). For men aged 25 to 54, XL103 is #1 with 10% (down from 10.8%). Country 105 takes the top spot for males 18 to 34 with a 14% share. It is also tops in the city for women aged 18 to 34, posting a 23% share (up from 20.4%).

Montreal: CHMP 98.5FM is #1 for A12+ with a 16% share (down from 17.8%) tied with Rythme FM at 16% (up from 15%). CFGL-FM 105.7 Rythme FM is tops with the ladies, taking the top spot for women 25 to 54, delivering a 20% share (down from 20.9%). For men 25 to 54, CHMP 98.5FM leads the way with a 15% share (down from an 18.2%) followed by CHOM-FM with 12.4%. Virgin Radio 96 is #1 for men aged 18 to 34 with a 14.6% share.
