Canadians less than half done with holiday shopping
According to a poll from Google Canada and Ipsos, Canadians were less than half way done with their holiday shopping as of Dec. 10.
That data was pulled from a poll of Canadian shoppers between Nov. 17 and Dec. 10, and shows Canadians were still intending to spend $336 of a total of $604 this holiday season.
In addition, the study noted that searches for Boxing Day are at an 11-year high, with searches starting to rise as early as November. Last year 40% of Boxing Week searches in Canada were done on smartphones.
Bell upgrades Netflix access
Subscribers of Bell Fibe TV or Bell Aliant FibreOP TV and Netflix can now access the streamer directly from their TV receivers thanks to a new deal with Bell.
All Fibe TV and FibreOP TV receivers have been updated to include Netflix directly on the app page of the Bell devices. The Bell deal is the second such one in Canada, with Telus signing a similar pact through its Optik TV service earlier this year.
Cult signs Watch It!
Calgary-based Cult has signed a deal to plan and buy media for specialty watch retailer Watch It! The agency is tasked with growing the footprint and consumer engagement of the chain, which has 30 locations across Canada.
Cult president Ryan Gill will also be acting as the interim CMO at Watch It! for the next 18 months.
NP section added to Calgary Herald
Postmedia has added its NP section to the Calgary Herald. The daily six-to-10 page section brings together analysis, commentary and background on national and international news, powered by the National Post.
The Calgary paper is the sixth Postmedia title to have the section added to its pages. It joins the Edmonton Journal, Windsor Star, Montreal Gazette, Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Regina Leader-Post, which added the additional content earlier this fall.
SendtoNews teams up with the NBA
SendtoNews has pacted with the NBA to syndicate NBA highlights. The digital video content distributor will be pushing out daily highlights for the NBA, WNBA and the NBA D-League to publishing companies on its network.
