ICYMI: The Hip coming to CBC, Tony Awards up on CTV

CBC to air Tragically Hip concert

The CBC has announced it will air a live, commercial-free broadcast of The Tragically Hip’s final stop of their Man Machine Poem tour in Kingston, ON. The broadcast will air on Saturday Aug. 20 at 8:30 p.m. on CBC Television, CBC Radio One, CBC Radio Two, CBC’s YouTube channels and cbcmusic.ca.

Tony Awards up on CTV

Sunday night’s broadcast of the Tony Awards drew an AMA of 883,000 viewers on CTV, according to overnight Numeris numbers from Bell Media. That was enough to mark the highest ratings for adults 25 to 54 for the program in three years.

Media entries down for Cannes Lions in 2016

Though overall entries were up for the 2016 Cannes Lions, entries for the Media Lions were slightly down globally. Last year there were 3,179 entries and this year that dropped to 2,986.

Captivate signs with Pelmorex

Location-based digital video network Captivate has announced a deal with Pelmorex Media to have content from The Weather Network shown on its signs. The content will appear in nearly 200 office buildings across the country.

CMA partners with Facebook for award

The Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) has partnered with Facebook for a new Mobile Marketing Award, which will recognize the best use of Facebook platforms, looking at both creativity and effectiveness. The award will be presented in partnership with Facebook as part of the 2015 CMA Awards on Nov. 25 in Toronto.

Love It or List It gets gamified

W Network and Big Coat Productions have partnered to launch the game, Love It or List It. Developed in partnership with Yellow Bear Studios and with the participation of the Bell Fund, the game will allow users to progress through game levels as a designer or real estate agent. The game will be ad-free at launch, with plans to allow lower banners within it at a later date, according to a Corus Entertainment representative.

Cision completes acquisition of PR Newswire

PR software and services company Cision has completed its acquisition of PR Newswire, which includes CNW. In Canada, all CNW products and services as well as all Cision subscriptions will be sold and supported under the CNW brand.
