Survivor doubleheader takes the top spot: Numeris

Finales for Survivor and Bull brought in high AMAs, but had to contend with news and hockey content for the week of May 22 to 28,

Survivor landed at the top of the Numeris charts with the highest average minute audience (2+) of all single-night programs in Canada for the week of May 22 to 28. This is the third week in a row that a program’s season finale has landed in the top spot of the charts (with NCIS‘s finale reigning victorious last week, and The Big Bang Theory taking the top the week before).

Not only did Global’s Survivor win the week with 2.2 million viewers, but the reunion special following the finale also brought in 1.7 million viewers, securing the second spot.

Another Global finale, Bull, also made it into the top five, with the May 23 finale pulling in an average audience of 1.76 million viewers. That was followed by CTV’s TV movie remake of Dirty Dancing, which captured 1.28 million viewers, and finally Masterchef Canada on CTV with 1.23 million.

While multi-night programs such as round three of the NHL Playoffs and news programming tended to dominate the markets, Bull, Survivor and Dirty Dancing performed favourably across most of Numeris’ Anglo regions. One other special event program broke the top five in the Toronto/Hamilton and the Montreal market, The Late Show’s special broadcast of an hour-long version of its segment Carpool Karaoke. The special grabbed an average audience of 281,000 viewers in Toronto/Hamilton, 50,000 in Montreal, and a an average audience of 989,000 nationally.

One specialty network (besides the sports giants) cracked the top five in a local market — bravo’s The Handmaid’s Tale placed fifth in Toronto/Hamilton with an average audience of 270,000 viewers in the region (901,000 nationally).

In French Quebec, TVA’s La poule aux oeufs d’or slid into the top spot with just under one million viewers, followed closely by Refuge Animal, also on TVA. Quebec’s market also included a special broadcast, a 90-minute special starring comic François Pérusse, which brought in 667,000 viewers.
