Channel Zero’s CHCH fall slate includes the linear TV premiere of a Netflix favourite.
On September 13, House of Cards will premiere on CHCH, marking the first time it has aired on broadcast television in Canada. The series, which recently aired its fifth season on the SVOD, will start from the first season on CHCH, however the network will air two episodes back-to-back per week in what it’s billing as a “mini-binge.” House of Cards has won six Emmy awards (with 46 nominations) and two Golden Globes (eight nominations) throughout its run on Netflix. It will air on CHCH Wednesdays at 9 p.m.
Also new to CHCH are the six-part miniseries Mars, supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow, Reagan-era spy drama The Americans, horror series The Strain and music business drama Empire. Sleepy Hollow will premiere Monday, Sept. 11 at 9 p.m., while The Americans will air a 90-minute premiere at 9 p.m. on Sept. 12 (it will move into the 10 p.m. slot on Tuesdays the following week).
The Strain will also be ushered in by a 90-minute premiere on Monday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. (before moving into the 10 p.m. slot on Oct. 2). Empire will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in the 8 p.m. slot. Although Empire is new to CHCH, it will start in the fourth season. Empire was previously broadcast on City before being picked up by Rogers Media’s Shomi, which has since shuttered.
Returning to CHCH are news programs 20/20 (Fridays, 10 p.m.; premiering Sept. 15), 48 Hours (Saturdays, 9 p.m.; premiering Sept. 30) and 60 Minutes (Sundays at 7:30 p.m.; premieres Sept. 24). It will also continue to air retro favourites Batman, Bewitched, The Partridge Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show on weekdays 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Comedy series Fresh Off the Boat will also return for a fourth season, premiering Oct. 3 in the 8:30 p.m. spot on Tuesdays.
