Kathy Cunningham is the new CFO of The Globe and Mail. Cunningham has a long career in finance, although she’s new to the media sector. She comes to the Globe from Sun Life Financial, where she served as SVP, finance for Sun Life Global. Prior to that, she served as SVP and CFO for Sun Life Financial’s Canadian business, and spent 24 years at KPMG. In 2017, Women’s Executive Network named her one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. She begins her new role on April 13 and will report to and work closely with Philip Crawley, publisher and CEO.
Horizon bolsters senior Canadian staff
Independent agency Horizon Media has appointed Carmen Hunt as SVP of business solutions in Toronto. Hunt comes from the client side; she spent two years as media manager for McDonald’s Canada. She also has been part of the senior marketing and communications team at Telus, and was media director at TBWA Vancouver. At Horizon – where the agency stated she was onboarded virtually – Hunt will report to EVP and GM Kevin Kivi, and is tasked with overseeing and driving key businesses for the agency.
Dentsu welcomes new global CEO
Amidst the ever-changing economic landscape, agencies are still making big moves; Dentsu Aegis Network is no exception. The group, headquartered in Tokyo, has welcomed Wendy Clark as its new global CEO. Clark comes to the holding co from DDB, where she led for four years. Prior to that, she served on the brand side at Coca-Cola for its sparkling brands division. Dentsu’s media agencies operating in Canada include Dentsu X, Carat and Isobar, as well as sponsorship-focused agency MKTG.
New Isobar hire focuses on UX
Joe Szabo has joined Isobar Canada as its new director of user experience. Szabo, who has worked in UX both on the agency side and as a freelancer, previously worked with the Dentsu Aegis media agency during his freelance days. He also previously worked on the creative side at JWT Canada.
