Earlier this summer, CTV saw strong ratings for a limited reboot of Who Wants to be a Millionaire – now, the network is hoping to recapture that magic with yet another reboot of a turn-of-the-millennium quiz show. Three months after its initial upfront, CTV announced that it has acquired the reboot of the Weakest Link, which this time around the program is hosted by Golden Globe-winning actor and comedian Jane Lynch.
The quiz show will air Monday nights at 10 p.m. starting Sept. 28. News of the acquisition comes as CTV confirmed its initial list of fall premiere dates across its core conventional channels, CTV and CTV2.
The new season officially kicks off Sept. 7 with the two-hour premiere of a new season of American Ninja Warrior on CTV2. That will air Mondays at 8 p.m. The following night, Transplant will return to the airwaves – but instead of a new season, CTV will air an encore of the first season on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. The Canadian original was a midseason premiere last year, and ended up breaking records as the top new Canadian original of the season. It’s since been “transplanted” to the U.S. where it has garnered a great deal of viewers and media attention. It’s currently gearing up for production on the second season.
The Masked Singer will return to CTV, with a special preview night on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. before making its official Wednesday night return on Sept. 23 in the 8 p.m. time slot.
CTV2 gets the new-to-the-network show In the Dark (season 2), beginning Sept. 15 and airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Jann returns for a new season on CTV Monday, Sept. 21, followed by new series Filthy Rich at 9 p.m. Making the leap from specialty to CTV is Star Trek: Discovery, which will air its first season Thursdays at 10 p.m. starting Sept. 24.
One of the big anticipated programs making a return is the U.S. version of The Amazing Race, premiering Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. New series Supermarket Sweep will kick-off an evening of throwbacks on Sunday, Oct. 18, airing at 8 p.m., followed by a new season of Who Wants to be a Millionaire at 9 p.m. and LA’s Finest at 10 p.m. The Voice will premiere Monday Oct. 19 on CTV2, and continue on CTV on Tuesdays starting Oct. 20. Finally, tearjerker favourite This is Us returns for a new season starting Nov. 10, airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m.
Other returning shows include Match Game, Ellen’s Game of Games and Shark Tank. Daily and nightly programs returning include The Marilyn Denis Show, The Social and Etalk (all returning Sept. 8). Current events show W5 returns Sunday, Sept. 26.
Specials include the 2020 TIFF Tribute Awards (Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.), the 72nd Emmy Awards (Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m.), the Billboard Music Awards (Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. on CTV2), the broadcast premiere of movie Ready Player One on Oct. 4 and Ocean’s 8 on Oct. 11.
