Governments take top spots once again: Media Monitors

The Government of Ontario, in particular, amped up its ad plays.

The governments of Ontario and Quebec had the most radio ad play in their respective biggest markets for the second consecutive week.

According to Media Monitors’ latest report for the week of Feb. 1 to Feb. 7, the Ontario Government had a play increase of 3.6% compared to the previous week, played on radio a total of 2,149 times. Canadian Blood Services jumped to number two – with a play count of 1,725, compared to 1,181 the week prior. Meal kit brand Goodfood remained at number three in the Toronto market for the second straight week, with its ads played 1,383 times.

Despite the boost in government ads, for the fourth consecutive week, banks and financial services’ brands were the category with the most ads played in Toronto, helped by major pushes from Scotiabank and Belairdirect. The QSR category was second with 2,786 ad plays, helped by buys from Subway and McDonald’s.

In Montreal, the Government of Quebec played 835 radio ads last week, just a few spots off from the previous week, followed by Éduc’alcool. Belairdirect, Subway and McDonald’s were also highly active in Montreal, taking the next three spots.

Government and union ads had the most radio play of any category in the Montreal market, with its ads being played 877 times.
