Upfronts ’21: Family Law, Departure renewed at Global

The scripted dramas have been renewed for second and third seasons, respectively, as part of Corus' 2021/22 slate.

Global has ordered new seasons of Departure and Family Law as part of its 2021 Upfront renewal slate.

The season-three renewal of Departure comes ahead of its season-two premiere. The show has been a ratings hit for Global, attracting an average audience (2+) of 1.2 million during its first six episodes last fall. Production on the third season is scheduled to begin this fall, while season two will air later in the year, though a premiere date has not yet been set.

Legal drama Family Law is already in production in Vancouver on its second season. Created by Canadian author Susin Nielsen, the sophomore season will see the return of Jewel Staite, Victor Garber, Zach Smadu and Genelle Williams, in addition to guest appearances from Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience) and Catherine Fitch (Murdoch Mysteries).

Earlier this week, Corus announced 35 renewals and greenlights across its factual, animation and kids specialty networks, including nine new lifestyle and factual series across HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada and HISTORY, give greenlights across kids networks YTV and Treehouse and a first-ever Corus original for its Adult Swim channel.
