Snap partners with Zulubot for tailor-made local AR

This is the first time Snap has partnered with a Canadian AR lens producer.

Snap and Toronto-based Zulubot – the creative content studio from creative agency Zulu Alpha Kilo – have partnered to help Snap’s partners create new augmented reality experiences tailored for Canadian users, marking the first time the social media company has partnered with a Canadian AR lens producer.

Sources from the company indicate the partnership will improve the localization efforts around its AR offerings for the Canadian market, demand for which is growing in the region, with more than 200 million Snapchatters engaging with augmented reality every day on the app.

Matt McGowan, GM of Snap in Canada, said in a statement that the partnership “will not only help us meet increased demand for AR content on Snapchat, it will also help us continue to tailor these experiences for Canadians.”

According to a study Snap commissioned with Deloitte, 94% of those surveyed are expecting to use AR for shopping the same or more in 2022 versus 2021, and globally, the Gen Z and Millennials represent $4.4 trillion in purchasing power.
