Google opens a new Cloud region in Toronto
To support its expanding customer base in Canada, Google has opened its new Google Cloud Platform region in Toronto. This is the second Google Cloud region in Canada since opening in Montreal in 2018.
This expansion was prompted by the rapid growth of cloud-based technology and services, as well as increased investments by Canada’s businesses to accelerate their digital transformation. Canadian companies like Telus, Accenture, Deloitte and Scotiabank are already Google Cloud clients, and having a more local region is meant to let them access data faster, letting them build more efficient applications and offers more choice, in particular, for companies in regulated industries to store data locally and meet local and compliance requirements.
Like Montréal, the new region will have three zones that allow organizations and industries to distribute apps and storage to protect against service disruptions. It also launches the core portfolio of Google Cloud Platform products, including Compute Engine, App Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Bigtable, Spanner, and BigQuery.
Adapt Media makes its first foray into transit advertising
Place-based OOH provider Adapt Media is now selling advertising on Timmins Transit through a new multi-year agreement.
The agreement covers OOH and DOOH on Timmins Transit across the system’s fleet of 25 buses, a fleet that was recently augmented, as well as roughly five dozen bus shelters and screens within the city’s downtown bus terminal.
Despite being a place-based company that specializes in reaching “people on the move,” this is Adapt’s first partnership with a municipal transit system. Jamie Thompson, Adapt Media’s CEO, says the partnership is the latest in a number of efforts Adapt has made to find the best ways to reach robust but hard-to-reach communities in Canada.
