Planet Fitness takes top spot in Toronto: Media Monitors

PC Optimum also made a jump in both Toronto and Montreal.

Planet Fitness shot to the top of the Media Monitors rankings of radio advertisers for the week of March 7 to March 13.

The gym was a new entrant with 1,001 radio spots in Toronto last week, while PC Optimum had the second spot with 819 ads. Ontario Tourism was another new entrant, taking the spot as the third most active advertiser with 784 ads.  Notably absent from last week’s ranking are the provincial and federal governments, who have both significantly reduced their radio spots now that pandemic-related restrictions have eased, with remaining rules are expected to lift by the end of April in Ontario.

In Montreal, the Government of Quebec returned to its familiar spot as the top advertiser with 408 ads, and PC Optimum increased its radio ads to take the second spot with 334 ads. Subway also increased its radio ads last week to take the third spot, and Dormez-vous jumped up the rankings into the fourth spot, up from 19 ahead of World Sleep Day on Friday. The mattress retailer is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales on the day to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Categorically, banks, public service, and business and consumer services had the biggest presence on Toronto radio, while wireless carriers, real estate, bedding retailers and manufacturers, and insurance were the most active in Montreal.
